IKON

The Rose Hill Church Student Ministry (6th-12th)

Why IKON?

IKON comes from the Greek word in the Bible meaning “image.” Every person is made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6 LXX). Basically, God made us to be like him in how we live. But that image has been messed up because of sin’s entrance into our lives. Thankfully, Jesus came to fully restore us back to the image of God. For Jesus himself is the image of the invisible God and our Creator (Colossians 1:15-20; 2 Corinthians 4:4). His life is what it means to be made in the image of God, and the Holy Spirit is transforming us back into his image (2 Corinthians 3:18; 1 Corinthians 15:49). So we as Christians in IKON understand that we are God the Father, Son, and Spirit’s image in this world. We portray to our community who God really is…we portray Christ. That is the image we base our identity on and it is the image we want to give to people who see, meet, and visit us.

Next event: VIP Mission Project and Senior Graduation Party May 13-20

Next Sunday May 13 starts our first week as a host congregation in our partnership with Valley Interfaith Promise. We will house and feed 3 homeless families in the VIP program at our church building and facilities. I am asking the teens to be a part of this mission project in 4 ways: 1) Setup Sunday May 13: show up that afternoon to help with the setup of the beds and stuff that the families will be using, 2) Big Class Wednesday: since the families will be sleeping in several of our classrooms, we will have one big class downstairs that the teens can help with, 3) Dinner and a Movie Friday night: I need several teens to be there to eat, talk, and fellowship with the families and their children, and 4) Breakdown Sunday: help break down the beds and stuff the families used and load them in the truck to ship to the next host church.

Also, I will be preaching a sermon Sunday night May 20th pertaining to our graduating seniors and then we will have a party for them in the church house @ 7 pm.
